WHITE Ensign kicked off their Essex Senior League campaign with a 1-1 draw against Halstead Town at Burroughs Park.

Asa Cansdale fired Halstead ahead just past the half hour mark before Riley Weir equalised in the 57th minute for the home-side.

And Ensign skipper Nathan Wilson was encouraged by the performance.

“I thought we played really well and dominated both ends going forwards and defensively too,” said Wilson.

“We showed a good reaction to going 1-0 down as we didn’t look fazed by it at all.

“We’re disappointed we couldn’t put our chances away and get all three points but it’s a good start to build from.”
