FORMER Billericay Town boss Dan Brown is certain George Wind has the all round game to shine at Southend United.

Wind is close to sealing his switch to the Shrimpers from the Isthmian Premier League club.

And Brown believes the 21-year-old right back has earned his move to a higher level after working tirelessly to improve.

“George was always a fantastic one v one defender,” said Brown.

“But once I became manager we started looking at all the data and, although George was really good defensively, we needed more from him going forward.

“We really studied the data and went through all the video clips.

“Once he saw the numbers himself he knew he could get higher too and that was his biggest improvement.

“He got better and better and the back end of the season with me he was flying.

“He seemed to take that into last season as well.”

Wind was voted Billericay’s players’ player of the year last season.

And Brown always felt the youngster had the talent and temperament to kick on.

“George is a good learner and he can take criticism as much as the praise,” said Brown.

“I always thought he could kick on and he’s got smarter with age as well.

“I come from a development background in football so I believe everyone can move on.

“It’s just whether they take on the information on or not and George definitely can.”

That has helped Wind to secure his impending move to Roots Hall.

And Brown is delighted to see the defender join the National League club.

“I’m over the moon for him,” said Brown.

“He was in a team with a lot of young players and a few of them have gone higher.

“I did see some reports linking him to different clubs and I’m chuffed to bits for him.

“He put up with me and he deserves everything he gets!”
