COLCHESTER'S Olympic boxer Lewis Richardson has secured at least a bronze medal for Team GB at the Paris Olympics after beating Zeyad Eashash tonight.

Lewis Richardson, 27, dropped to his knees after securing a split decision victory over Jordan’s Zeyad Eashash, 25, after being given the win by three judges - with two judges awarding the fight to Zeyad Eashash

Lewis will now fight Mexico's Marco Verde, 22, in the semi-finals on Tuesday.

While the boxing 71kg men's final is on Friday August 9.

If Richard wins he will progress to the gold-medal match but if he loses he will return with bronze.

Lewis said: "Amazing - one of the most special moments of my life.

"People can keep doubting me all they want but I can definitely go all of the way."

Lewis was the only one of Team GB’s six boxers to get through to the second round, which was tonight, meaning Lewis himself prevented Team GB’s first boxing wipe out since 1996

For the Olympics, the winner of the boxing final wins the gold medal while the loser gets the silver medal.

Both boxers losing out in the semi-finals win bronze medals and individual medals are awarded for each weight category.
