GEORGE Wind cannot wait to prove himself at Southend United.

The right-back completed his switch to the Shrimpers from Billericay Town on Friday.

And the 21-year-old is eager to make the most of his move to Roots Hall.

“I’m delighted to get the deal over the line and I can’t wait to get going,” said Wind.

“I’ve had a great time over at Billericay and I wish them all the best.

“I’ve developed a lot there and played a lot of games there but now I’ve been given the opportunity to kick on I’m looking forward to proving myself here.”

Wind came off the bench for Blues towards the end of Saturday’s 1-0 win at Chelmsford City.

And he is pleased to have worked his way back up the football pyramid after being let go by Colchester United at the age of 16.

“After I got released by Colchester I didn’t think it would happen for me but once you start playing again you realise how non-league can help you get back at the pyramid again,” said Wind, who played for Bowers & Pitsea before joining Billericay.

“I quickly realised I had the capabilities and Billericay helped me massively on and off the pitch.

“You learn a load of things on and off the pitch and playing in the lower levels definitely put me in good stead.

“I’m ready to kick on here.”

Wind will battle with Gus Scott-Morriss for a place in the starting line-up.

And he is looking to make an impact at both ends of the pitch.

“I’m a modern day full-back and I like to get up and down the pitch,” said Wind.

“I like to attack when possible and I’m definitely looking to add that more to my game as I do enjoy assisting and scoring in the final third.

“I’m very good at one v one defending and I like to help my team-mates try and win the games.”

Wind will be doing just that with the Shrimpers this season.

And he cannot wait to line up in front of Blues supporters.

“It will be exciting and I’m looking forward to getting out there at Roots Hall and playing in front of the fans,” said Wind.

“I can’t wait to get going.

“There’s only a week to go until the season starts now so I’ve come in quite late really but I’m looking forward to training, meeting all the boys and the start of the season.

“Hopefully it can be a successful one.

“Southend have a great fanbase and I’m looking forward to seeing the ground full against York on Saturday. “
