AN entertaining week of tennis ended with a flurry of fantastic finals at the Essex County Championships which were played at Thorpe Bay Lawn.
Number one seed Leonardo Taylor triumphed in the under 12 boys final as he beat second seed Mayr Brown-Devall 7-6, 6-4 before Kamran Arif, who was also the number one seed, triumphed 6-1, 6-4 in the under 16 boys final.
In the under 18 doubles, Raheel Rahman teamed up with Thomas Taylor-Widgery to beat Freddy and George Ward 7-5, 2-6, 10-7 in the final before number one seeds Hudson Burdett and Leonardo Taylor triumphed 7-5, 7-5 in the under 12 doubles final against Mayr Brown-Devall and Oscar Versey.
The under 16s girls singles final saw Sophia Krutikova beat Kyla Eves 7-6, 6-1 while Tak Sam Fung took the women’s singles final as she saw off Kiera Chadwick 6-3, 6-2.
The under 18s mixed doubles final saw Kamran Arif and Keira Chadwick beating Freddy Ward and Olivia Higgs 6-3, 6-2.
The under 18s boys final was won by Ruben Stanmore who beat Thomas Taylor-Widgery 7-5, 6-4.
Stanmore also reached the final of the men’s singles where he was beaten 7-6, 6-0 by Thomas Pudney.
In the men’s doubles final. Freddy and George Ward beat Sam Bayda and Thomas Pudney 2-6, 6-1, 10-5 while Kyla Eves and Emily Watts won the women’s doubles final, beating Rebecca Baldwi and Gabriele Tarasovaite 6-3, 6-4.
The final was watched by Busted star James Bourne.
