SOUTHEND United centre-back Adam Crowther is determined to help the Shrimpers rediscover their defensive solidarity.

Blues head to Oldham Athletic this weekend having conceded four goals in their last two games.

And Crowther is keen to start enjoying his return to the starting line-up by securing more clean sheets.

“I’m pleased to have played but not pleased with the two goals we conceded in both games” said Crowther.

“We’ve got to get back to the ways of before but I’m happy to be playing.

“I don’t like not playing but it’s football.

“We’re all a team and I’m happy to be back out there.”

And the squad have been working hard in a bid to get better at the back.

“We’re always looking at ways we can improve,” said Crowther.

“Benno (Mark Bentley) especially does a lot of work with us and we’ve analysed what went wrong.

“Sometimes, like the second goal for Dagenham, it deflects twice into the player’s path who scores.

“We’ve been working hard and hopefully that will pay off but I don’t think we need to change too much because our defensive record has been very good for the past two seasons.”

However, Crowther knows the Shrimpers will be tested tomorrow.

“It’s two good sides,” said the defender.

“Last year’s game was a good one and they’ve started quite well this season too.

“They’ve got good fans, just like us and it’s a good venue so we’re looking forward to it.

“Hopefully we can play and get three points.”

Blues look set to hand debuts to new signings Bim Pepple and Keenan Appiah-Forson.

And Crowther has already been impression by the new arrivals.

“They’re great lads who have fitted in straight away,” said Crowther.

“They’re going to do well for us.

“Bim’s a handful up front, he’s already hurt me a few times and skinned me but they’re good additions.

“I’m looking forward to seeing them play.”
