GEORGE Moncur felt Southend United were unlucky not to pick up more than a point at Oldham Athletic.

The Shrimpers dug deep to secure a 1-1 draw against the Latics.

But Moncur, who produced a man of the match performance, thought Kevin Maher's side could have come out on top.

"I thought we had the better of the ball," said the on loan Leyton Orient midfielder.

"It was a bit of a scrappy game but once it opened up a bit that’s when we started to show the quality.

"A point is a little bit harsh for us because I felt like we deserved more but we showed a lot of strength too because a lot of teams would have buckled at 1-1."

Blues fought hard to secure a share of the spoils.

And Moncur was pleased with the part he played in the National League clash.

"I had a lot of joy today, especially in the second half but sometimes because I run with the ball a lot when I get near the edge of the box I can’t feel my legs to shoot," said Moncur.

"That’s something I need to improve on because there’s no point doing that work and nothing comes of it.

" I’ll be working hard at that to get more goals and assists for the team.

"But that was only my second start since about November last year so it takes a while.

"Pre-season I only played two lots of 45 minutes but I feel stronger every day and hope to carry on.”

Moncur has now started the last two games for the Shrimpers.

And he is beginning to get his love back for the game.

“It’s about enjoying my football again,” said Moncur.

“It was tough for me last year and in pre-season but when I’ve got the love back for the game I’m a good player.

“I’ve just got to believe myself.”

But Moncur is already being boosted by those around him at Blues.

“The staff and the lads here have been top drawer,” said the midfielder.

“I just feel like we’ve been unlucky and I feel like we’ve deserved more but that will come.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if we start doing teams three or four.”

The Shrimpers return to action against Eastleigh at Roots Hall tomorrow night.

And Moncur is certain he will be ready to line-up again.

“I might have to get my legs in the fridge for a bit but it will be good for me and I’m looking forward to it on Tuesday,” said Moncur.

“When I’ve got Jesus on my side anything is possible.

“He gave Abraham a kid in the bible at 100 so if he can do that he can help me out Tuesday.”
