SOUTHEND Saxons made it back to back wins at the start of Regional One South East after triumphing 34-27 at Amersham & Chiltern.
After last season’s promotion from Regional Two Anglia, Saxons have now won 28 matches in succession.
And director of rugby Josh Ward was delighted with the latest victory which came via the last play of the game.
“It should probably have never got to that point in terms of how we feel about the game,” said Ward.
“We spoke about the resilience the group showed during tough parts of the game when we were disappointed.
“We were falling off a little bit and that’s credit to them.
“But in the last five minutes the intensity and composure we showed to get over the line with the last play is a good feeling.”
Southend are now one of four teams to have started the season with maximum points and will be aiming to make it three wins in succession for the current campaign when they host sixth placed Sudbury at Warners Bridge on Saturday..
