SOUTHEND United surged back to winning ways with a 4-2 victory at Solihull Moors this afternoon.

The Shrimpers went into clash having been beaten in their last two games.

But a brace from Bim Pepple plus strikes from Keenan Appiah and Gus Scott-Morriss saw Blues record all three points in a game which also saw them score four on the road for the first time since 2019.

Despite the final score-line, it was Solihull who wasted the first opportunity of the afternoon with Conor Wilkinson volleying over a right wing cross from former Billericay Town striker Bradley Stevenson.

However the Shrimpers soon hit back with the recalled Pepple scuffing a close range shot straight at Moors goalkeeper Laurie Walker after being teed up by Scott-Morriss.

George Moncur then cut in from the left hand side of the penalty area before seeing a shot deflected wide of the far post.

But, with 19 minutes on the clock, Blues broke the deadlock with Appiah-Forson on target for the first time since signing earlier this season.

The midfielder neatly controlled a high ball forward before cutting inside and scoring with an excellent, low left footed shot into the bottom left hand corner of the net.

The Shrimpers stayed on top and doubled their lead in the 27th minute with Pepple also netting his first goal for the club.

The on loan Luton Town frontman turned sharply in a central position, after a neat pass from Harry Taylor, before surging forward and scoring with a well-taken left footed shot which flew into the left hand side of the net from 20 yards.

However, Solihull got back into the game four minutes before the break as Conor Wilkinson teed up Sam Bowen who scored with a first time into the left hand side of the goal.

Immediately after the break, Olly Tipton arrived at the far post before seeing his shot tipped over the crossbar by Collin Andeng Ndi.

But, after surviving the scares, the Shrimpers made it 3-1 in the 56th minute with the in-form Scott-Morriss scoring for the eighth time this season.

The right wing-back charged into the right hand side of the penalty area before scoring with a deflected effort from 16 yards.

Scott-Morriss’ latest effort restored a two goal cushion for Blues but not for long as the hosts netted in the 67th minute, with Jack Stevens on target from the penalty spot.

Referee Stephen Parkinson pointed to the spot after Harry Taylor brought down Stevens inside the penalty area with a sliding challenge.

And Stevens made the most of the opportunity as he guided a low effort into the centre of the goal with Andeng Ndi diving to his left.

However, the topsy, turvy nature the half continues as the Shrimpers made it 4-2 in the 70th minute.

A right wing corner from Jack Bridge was flicked on at the near post by Bonne which enabled Peddle to volley home his second goal of the afternoon.

The instinctive effort also made sure of all three points for the Shrimpers who saw out the remainder of an entertaining encounter without conceding to secure their fourth successive win against Solihull.
