SOUTHEND United head coach Kevin Maher will clock up his 600th game with the club tomorrow.
Maher will reach the landmark when the Shrimpers head to Wealdstone for a National League clash.
And Maher is proud to become just the second person in Blues’ history to have reached a sixth century.
“I’m proud of that fact,” said Maher.
“I had a number of games as a player and I’ve added to that as manager now.
“Hopefully there are many more to game and there are a lot of successful times ahead too.”
Maher made 454 appearances during a 10 year spell playing for the Shrimpers which started back in 1998 before becoming head coach back in October 2021.
Maher has now bossed Blues for 145 games.
And he holds happy memories from both roles.
“As a player I remember Swansea City away when we got promoted, Bristol City at home, Man United but there are so many highs as a player,” said Maher.
“You remember what it made you feel like and beating Lincoln in the play-off was huge as well.
“As manager it’s hard to think off the top of my head but I remember winning at Barnet and the noise the fans made was incredible.
“Having 8,500 cheering us on is great but I have so many good memories.
“Oldham at home on the opening day last year was incredible from the players and having the togetherness we do is my proudest thing as manager after everything we’ve been though.
“Everyone is pulling in the right direction and when we do that we can achieve things.”
Only Steve Tilson has been involved in more Shrimpers matches than Maher.
And Maher is eager to ensure his best is yet to come.
“I want success for this club more than anyone and that’s my aim,” said Maher.
“I won’t stop until it happens and we’ll keep building the club.
“There will be ups and downs but this is a huge part of my life.
“It’s one I’m determined to make successful too.”
