BOWERS & Pitsea head into tonight’s clash with table-topping Lewes fresh from their first win of the Isthmian Premier Division season.

A brace from Alfie Evans saw Bowers triumph 2-1 at Dartford on Saturday.

And skipper Lewis Chambers is now hoping for more of the same at the Len Salmon Stadium this evening.

“Saturday was a massive win for the team,” said Chambers.

“It’s released some pressure of us getting the first win and it’s helped the group to start coming together as a team.

“Tonight will be another tough game, like every game in this league.

“But I hope to keep our momentum going and you never know the result.”

Bowers – who won promotion via the Isthmian North play-offs last season – are currently second from bottom in the standings.

And Chambers admits it has been a big step up in standard.

“The standard is clear between the two leagues,” said Chambers.

“You can’t be making any mistakes as you will be punished for them whereas in the north you can get away with it.

“This is not the start we were hoping for.

“It’s been tough as we’ve not been played off the park but we’re losing by the odd goal.

“We need to start picking up points and getting clear from the bottom of the league.”
