TWO goals in stoppage time saw Southend United draw 1-1 at Wealdstone tonight.

The Shrimpers seemed to be heading for defeat when Callum McFarlane put Stones in front a minute into injury time.

But Blues fought back to secure a share of the spoils with the fit-again Josh Walker converting a right wing cross from Gus Scott-Morriss in the dying seconds of boss Kevin Maher's 600th game with the club.

After a quiet start to the evening, Wealdstone registered the game’s first shot on target in the 27th minute when Elliot Thorpe cut in from the right hand side before curling a left footed shot straight at Shrimpers goalkeeper Collin Andeng Ndi.

The hosts then wasted a far clearer chance to score as Thorpe’s left wing corner found Jack Cook unmarked on the edge of the six yard box but the defender could only send his header wide of the right post.

After the break, Stoneso midfielder Christian Scott sent a long range shot straight at Andeng Ndi before the Shrimpers hit-back with Keenan Appiah-Forson firing over the crossbar from 20 yards after a corner from George Moncur had been cleared into the path of the midfielder In a bid to improve, Blues boss Kevin Maher made his first change of the night in the 61st minute with James Morton replacing Bim Pepple.

The swap saw Moncur move further forward and the midfielder soon curled a 20 yard shot over the crossbar.

Moments later, the in-form Gus Scott-Morriss flicked Noor Husin’s left wing cross wide of the far post before Moncur shot wide of the opposite upright from 16 yards.

Wealdstone soon responded by bringing on former Shrimpers striker Henry Sandat on in attack in place of Sam Ashford before Blues made a double change in the 79th minute with Joe Gubbins replacing Jack Bridge and the fit-again Josh Walker replacing Moncur.

After the alterations ,Keenan Appiah-Forson saw a looping effort cleared away by Stones shot-stopper Sam Howes before the host hit back with Micah Obiero having a low shot smothered by Andeng Ndi.

But with the game seemingly heading towards a goalless draw, the Shrimpers were forced into a late change with Harry Taylor heading off with a hamstring injury.

The defender was replaced by George Wind but as Blues readjusted Wealdstone took the lead one minute into injury time with McFarlane beating Andeng Ndi to the ball to head home from close range.

But the Shrimpers fought back and equalised right at the death with Walker scoring his first goal for the club.

The forward – who had been out since the second game of the season with a hamstring injury – was picked out by an inviting right wing cross from Scott-Morriss and made no mistake from six yards.
