WEALDSTONE boss Matt Taylor was frustrated his side could not hang on for all three points against Southend United.

Stones took the lead a minute into stoppage time with Callum McFarlane heading home.

But a last-gasp leveller from Shrimpers substitute Josh Walker meant Tuesday night's game ended in a 1-1 draw, much to the frustration of Taylor.

“You don’t get what you deserve in this game but we’ve probably got to be a little bit cuter when we score in injury time,” Taylor told the club’s YouTube channel.

“The opposition are obviously going to put the ball in the box and we’ve not got what we deserved in terms of the three points.

“Southend are a very good team but we smothered them.

“We changed the way we pressed and the players’ energy was fantastic.

“But having said all that we’ve only come away with a point and we should probably win the game.”

However, Taylor did take plenty of positives from Wealdstone’s performance.

“I was pleased we found a different way to score,” said Taylor.

“For 15 minutes in the second half Southend got a little bit of control but we dealt with it really well.

“I thought we controlled the tempo of the game with the way we played and the rotation.

“We moved the ball quickly and we had to deal with a lot tonight.

“Adrian Mariappa has had to go off at half-time so we had to change shape and try to find a different way to win.”
