BILLERICAY Town boss Gary McCann is not heaping extra significance on Saturday’s top of the table clash at Lewes.

Second placed Billericay warmed up for this weekend’s clash with a resounding 4-0 win against Dartford at New Lodge on Tuesday night.

And McCann will now be treating the trip to the league leaders the same way as any other fixture.

“It’s another game and another three points, it’s a cliche but it is,” McCann told the club's Twitter account.

“We’re starting to show our mettle but we’re still in second or third gear and there’s an awful lot more to come but we’re playing against a team who have really started the season brilliantly.”

Lewes top the Isthmian Premier Division table having taken 20 points from their first nine games of the campaign.

But McCann insists Billericay will be ready for the battle.

“They’ve got a new manager and a new young side who are hungry and playing for each other but we’ve done some of our homework on them already and we know it’s going to be a tough game,” said McCann.

“It will be on a beautiful pitch but we will need to pass it better then we did on Tuesday for the first 60 minutes.

“We will be ready and prepared like we are for all games but we will need to make sure we bring our A game.”

Billericay are currently a point behind Lewes.

But McCann was not completely satisfied by his side’s display against Dartford.

“Most people will see it’s a 4-0 win and expect a dominant performance but I thought for the first half and maybe the early part of the second that we were so loose in possession,” said McCann.

“We turned the ball over so many times it was starting to frustrate the bench.

“We just lost that bit of bravery and that conviction that’s required.

“But I don’t know whether that’s the magnitude of the game because I’ve really built up these next two to be massive.”

However, McCann was pleased with aspects of the performance.

“We defended brilliantly and we limited them to very little.

“We maybe gave up too much possession that allowed them to come at us more than I would like but every time they came at us the defence stood up to it.

“What we also had was an aggression and a purpose.

“To win 4-0 is nice and it’s off the back of a good win against Bognor.

“Now the focus is on Saturday.”

Elsewhere on Tuesday night, Canvey Island drew 4-4 at home to Cray Valley PM and are 19th in the table.

In Isthmian North, table-topping Basildon United lost 2-1 at Felixstowe & Walton United despite taking a first half lead.
