SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher had words of praise for goalkeeper Collin Andeng Ndi following his side’s 1-0 win at Eastleigh.
Andeng Ndi made a vital save to stop Tyrese Shade scoring when the game was still goalless in the first half.
And Maher was delighted by the youngster’s display between the sticks after the custodian had been subjected to abuse on social media.
“Collin made a brilliant save and all credit to him,” said Maher.
“He’s a 21 year-old kid and he’s had to delete his social media because he’s getting abuse, probably from middle aged men with no profile pic.
“He’s a kid and he’s going to make mistakes but he’s had an unbelievable start to his career.
“There will be dips and we spoke to him yesterday.
“He’s got to come through it and we’ve got to stick by him, not turn on him.
“You don’t turn on one of your own but the fans here were brilliant again today.
“I’m pleased we could give them something to cheer at the end.”
