CANVEY Island boss Brad Wellmen hailed the togetherness of his team following an important 2-1 win at Bognor Regis Town.

Finlay Dorrell’s goal four minutes from time saw Canvey come out on top after Town’s Spencer Spurway had cancelled out Chris Harris’ opener for the visitors.

And Wellmen was pleased with another spirited showing.

“We’ve got a lot of confidence in the team at the moment,” Wellmen told the club's Twitter account.

“Although our position might not seem like that we’re three unbeaten in the league now and that’s not a bad thing.

“We rode our luck at times but we worked really hard.

“We scored very good goals and it showed we’ve got a squad because I’ve made five subs when it felt like we were hanging on.

“Young Fin has been left out and not played the last couple of games but he’s come on and scored the winner.

“That’s what we’re all about and that’s the togetherness in the team.”

Canvey are now 14th in the Isthmian Premier Division standings.

But Wellmen is keen to move higher by securing his side’s first home win of the season when they host Folkestone Invicta on Saturday.

“We’re three on the bounce unbeaten and we want to make Park Lane a fortress,” said Wellmen.

“The fans have been unbelievable and we want to give the ones at home something to cheer about.

“Hopefully we can do it but we’ve got to be at our best.”
