SOUTHEND Saxons suffered a 26-20 defeat against table-topping Letchworth Garden City at Warners Bridge.
Southend have now suffered four setbacks in succession and sit eighth in Regional One South East.
In Regional Two Anglia, Westcliff stayed top of the table with a 30-12 win at Holt while Rochford Hundred, who are ninth, lost 37-17 at third placed Eton Manor.
In Counties One Essex, Basildon lost 23-18 at home to Old Cooperians and are now second from bottom in the standings.
In Counties Two Essex, Canvey Island beat Old Brentwoods 29-11 and Billericay triumphed 75-7 at Clacton.
Billericay are second in the table with Canvey sitting sixth.
