JOSH Walker is certain Southend United have got their season up and running.

The Shrimpers striker fired Kevin Maher’s side to a 1-0 win at Rochdale on Saturday.

And Walker feels Blues are now moving in the right direction after a slow start.

“It’s definitely up and running now,” said Walker.

“We’ve had two good performances on the trot now, two good wins and two clean sheets.

“It’s definitely a step in the right direction but we have to be consistent and keep performing well.

“If we do that, the rest will follow.”

Saturday’s success saw the Shrimpers move 15th in the National League standings.

But Walker felt Blues were made to work hard for the win.

“We performed well,” said the forward.

“They had a lot of possession but our shape was good.

“At times we pressed them and they found it hard.

“We limited them to few opportunities and it was all round good performance.

“Everyone put in a real shift too which was good.”

That work-rate meant Walker’s effort proved to be the only goal of the game.

And he was delighted to see the ball hit the back of the net after initially failing to make contact with the ball.

“It was a funny one,” smiled Walker.

“Obviously I missed the ball to start with but luckily it fell for me and I was able to tap it in.

“We’re all happy and it’s a good win for us.

“It’s good to get the three points.”

Walker played a key part in the victory and enjoyed lining up alongside Bim Pepple in attack.

“I think it’s the first time I’ve started with Bim and I thought we had a good partnership,” said Walker.

“He played very well and we’ll keep building our relationship.”

The duo will now be hoping to start against Aldershot on Wednesday and Walker is keen to keep the good run going.

“We’ll rest and recover and go again on Wednesday now,” said Walker.

“We’ll be ready and we want another good result.”

Walker also wants more goals and remains determined to overtake Gus Scott-Morriss as the club’s top scorer.

“I’ll be catching him and I’ll be telling him too,” laughed Walker.

“I’m seven behind but I’ll catch him, don’t worry!”
