GEORGE Wind is determined to build on his impressive full debut for Southend United.

Wind produced a fine display to help the Shrimpers secure a hard-fought 1-0 win at Rochdale.

But the Billericay based wing-back remains hungry for more opportunities .

“For me Saturday was only the start in my eyes,” said Wind.

“I’ve now shown everyone a glimpse of what I can bring to this team but there’s still so much more I can offer and I’m working hard every day to improve.

“I’m very much determined to build on Saturday’s performance.”

Wind joined the Shrimpers from Billericay Town during the summer but was selected among the substitutes for the opening 14 games of the season due to the fine form of Gus Scott-Morriss.

But Wind always knew he would have to wait for an opportunity to play.

“It has been frustrating not playing at times because I’m someone who wants to play at every opportunity and show what I can do but I completely understand the circumstances,” said Wind.

“I’ve been patient, just continued to work hard and I’m grateful the gaffer gave me a chance on Saturday.

“Gus has been on fire recently and we get along really well too.

“He’s a great guy and he’s helped a lot since I’ve come in.”

Wind came into the starting line-up at Spotland due to Scott-Morriss serving a one match suspension.

And he was thrilled to help Blues pick up all three points.

“I thought as a team we were brilliant,” said Wind.

“We executed our game plan perfectly against a tough side away from home.

“It was very important to pick up three points and a clean sheet, so I was really pleased with how the game went.”

Wind had made four appearances for the bench for Blues prior to Saturday’s start.

And he now feels firmly at home with the Shrimpers.

“I’ve settled in well at Southend,” said Wind.

“Everyone has been super welcoming since I’ve joined which has made the transition easy.

“After being here a couple months I feel really part of the group.

“I’m enjoying my time.”

And Wind is also relishing playing full-time football for the first time in his career.

“This is my first shot at full-time football and I’m loving it,” said Wind.

“It has been tough on my body at times but it’s something that I’ve always wanted so I’m glad I am now getting the opportunity.”

Wind combined playing at Billericay with working at logistics company DSV.

But he is now firmly focused on Blues.

“I have lived in Billericay my whole life so playing for Southend is huge,” said Wind.

“I understand how big of a club it is being from around the local area so it’s great to play for them now and experience the fantastic support that they have too.”
