CANVEY Island skipper Jamie Salmon is seeking a strong reaction from the Gulls when they host Carshalton Athletic tonight.

Canvey suffered a 1-0 defeat to Folkestone Invicta at the Steve Taxi’s Stadium on Saturday.

And Salmon wants to see an immediate response this evening against their 12th placed opponents.

“It’s extremely important to bounce back tonight,” said Salmon.

“It’s not going to be an easy task as Carshalton are a decent team like all teams in this league but we’re looking forward to it.”

Saturday’s setback saw Canvey slip to 17th in the Isthmian Premier Division with only goal difference keeping them above the relegation zone.

And Salmon was disappointed with the display.

“It felt like we never really got going to be honest,” said the midfielder.

“We had a great chance at 0-0 to go 1-0 up but other than that it was a lot of huff and puff.

“We gave away a really sloppy goal as well which was really frustrating.”

But Salmon remains certain Canvey will be able to work their way up the table.

“I’m confident with the squad we’ve got but we need to cut out sloppy goals,” said Salmon.

“We need be a lot more consistent with our performances and then we will start climbing that table.”

Elsewhere tonight, Benfleet head to Halstead Town in the Essex Senior League.

Benfleet sit 10th in the table with Halstead bottom.
