SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher faces a selection headache at Aldershot Town.

George Wind impressed at right wing-back in place of the Shrimpers’ top scorer Gus Scott-Morriss at Rochdale on Saturday.

But, with Scott-Morriss available again after serving his one match suspension, Maher must decide who to pick out wide on Wednesday night.

“It’s what you strive for and it’s what we brought Windy in for,” said Maher.

“Gus has had a brilliant start to the season and when he’s out and George steps in it’s exactly what you want.

“Credit to George for how he played at the weekend so we’ve got a selection headache there which is good.

“We’ve possibly got the same in one or two other areas as well when you look at a three game week.”

Blues, who triumphed 1-0 at Rochdale on Saturday, host Tamworth at Roots Hall this weekend.

But Maher's focus is firmly on Aldershot who have a made similar start to the season as the Shrimpers and will also head into the game on a high after beating Eastleigh 2-1 at the EBB Stadium on Saturday.

“They had a very good result at the weekend and they’ll be pleased with that,” said Maher.

“When you look at what they did last year they had a brilliant season not just in the league but in the FA Cup as well.

“But when you lose players like they have, who have probably brought in a lot of money for the club by the way, it’s going to affect you and it’s similar to us after what we’ve lost.

“It can take a while to settle down but I’m sure they will be fine.

“They’ve got some very good players but they’ve had injuries as well like us.

“Sometimes it can take a while to get going but a win on Saturday will be massive for their confidence.”

Aldershot are currently 16th in the National League standings, level on points with the Shrimpers who sit just above Tommy Widdrington’s team on goal difference.

And Maher is expecting an entertaining encounter.

“We always have a really good following there which makes for a good atmosphere and I think they’ve always been good football matches when we’ve played them too,” said Maher.

“They’ve been open and entertaining and proper matches between two teams who want to win the game.

“It has the makings of a good one again but we’ll have to be bang at it.

“We’ll have to be ready to go and ready to attack the game.”

However, Blues are again likely to be without midfielder Cav Miley (back) and striker Danny Waldron (knee).

“They both joined in a bit today which was good,” said Maher.

“They’re another day closer but tomorrow is probably too early for them.

“It would be lovely to have them back but they’ve got to get through a certain bulk of work before they’re ready to be selected.”
