SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher hailed his side’s professionalism following a comfortable 2-0 win against Tamworth at Roots Hall.
Early goals from Bim Pepple and Oli Coker extended the Shrimpers’ unbeaten run to four games.
And Maher was pleased to end a busy week with a routine win.
“A 2-0 win and a clean sheet, we would’ve taken that before the game,” said Maher.
“It’s been a tough week going on the road to Rochdale and then midweek too at Aldershot.
“We had a day less than Tamworth to prepare but to go two up early was good.
“We were just missing that third one to put it to bed.
“While it was like that there was always a chance with balls coming into the box but it was professional and we didn’t give up many chances.”
The on loan Pepple was instrumental in Blues’ triumph.
And Maher heaped praise on the striker’s performance.
“Bim did ever so well,” said Maher.
“He showed his strength and pace and good composure for the goal too.
“Likewise for the cutback for Oli Coker too which was really pleasing because it’s something we do get onto them about.”
Pepple was partnered by Macauley Bonne in attack.
And Maher was happy with the former Ipswich Town forward's display - despite his glaring miss on the stroke of half-time.
"Macca worked tirelessly," said Maher.
"It just wouldn't go in for him but you can see he's getting stronger and fitter.
"His nous was good up there in terms of when you're playing up to him and the goals will come for him.
"Once one goes in they will start to fall for him but he combines well with Bim.
"They did it at Solihull and they've done it again today too.
"Having Josh Walker to come on is important too."
The win saw the Shrimpers move 14th in the table and came despite Maher having to watch the game from the directors box due to a one match ban.
"There's stuff you see from there you may not see from down the side but Daz (Currie) and Benno (Mark Bentley) are well versed in doing that job down there." said Maher.
"I'm just pleased for everyone that we've got a win, three points and a clean sheet."
