WESTCLIFF beat Brentwood 22-19 in a top of the table clash in Regional Two Anglia.
Both teams went into the clash unbeaten but it was league leaders Westcliff who triumphed, thanks to a last gasp drop goal from Greg Bannister.
Elsewhere, Rochford Hundred lost 31-12 to Harlow at Magnolia Road and are now ninth in the table.
In Regional One South East, eighth placed Southend Saxons suffered a fifth defeat in succession, losing 35-13 at Hertford.
In Counties One Essex, Basildon lost 31-17 at Maldon and remain second from bottom in the standings.
In Counties Two Essex, second placed Billericay beat Harwich & Dovercourt 35-13 while Canvey Island won 24-5 at Kings Cross Steelers.
Canvey are now fourth in the standings.
