SOUTHEND United fans have their say on Saturday's 4-3 defeat to Charlton Athletic.

Immensely proud to be a Shrimper tonight. Pre game, I hoped we could have a competitive game of football against L1 opposition… today, the passion, desire & BELIEF we showed to fight back TWICE, was immense to see. Gutted to lose late on, but immensely proud of the team.

@DanMcSUFC

A monumental effort from the team, roared on by the fans. Back to the performance levels of last season. We’re Southend till we die.

@fan_southend1

Brilliant cup tie and the atmosphere was cracking- unlucky to lose but the players gave everything.

@trevor_tricky

All avoidable goals but I’m sure Charlton will feel the same, held our own against a side two divisions above is a great achievement, hope we can use this is a platform to kickstart play-off contention!

@BrodyStopher16

I thought it was an immense game, with players who literally ran themselves into the ground. Every player can hold their heads high. It was a great feeling to be able to just “enjoy the day” we’ve had so few of those over the last years. Brilliant. Let’s use this and kick on.

@harrisufc

Well, it took a defensive mixup in the 120th minute for a team two divisions above to finally beat us. The magic of the FA Cup so nearly delivered for us but it wasn’t to be. Great game though and the boys did us proud!

@Davemallam

Proper FA Cup tie. Lads were outstanding today, and it was heartbreaking to lose it like they did. Hope the gaffer allows them a beer tonight cause they deserve it!

@SenseiPhil2

Played a team 50 places ahead of The Blues in the English pyramid and played them off the park and the bit that hurts was the final result.

@Jasonsnell17

Super effort by each and every player. Incredible heart to keep coming back, and some top rate performances. We didn't deserve to lose, and we suffered from a few minor mistakes. The lads did us proud.

@FletchfieldSUFC

Southend players made the fans proud in almost delivering some FA Cup magic. Cruel end to the game as Southend truly were the better side and if they play like that going forward they will be mixing it with the likes of Charlton again week in and out.

@Thorpe7

That game was exactly what the fa cup is all about It's hard to lose like that, but can honestly say they would have run through a brick wall today if they'd had too We were the better team today, what a shift they put in, and the hall was rocking!

@steveg671

Passion, commitment, desire, effort, dedication, just 5 words to sum up that entire afternoon, we played them off the park, to come from behind how we did on multiple occasions is just magnificent, I’m so proud of that team, we did not deserve to lose that game.

@GeorgeyBoy344

Could so easily have been avoided. Why wasn't Bridge substituted? Poor use of other subs. Morton and Coker were great. Their replacements added very little. Taking Pepple off wasn't great either.
