SOUTHEND United star Gus Scott-Morriss felt a packed Roots Hall produced one of the best atmospheres he has ever played in front of on Saturday.
Blues’ biggest home crowd since May 2019 saw Kevin Maher’s side lose 4-3 to Charlton Athletic.
And Scott-Morriss was blown away by the noise generated inside the ground.
“The crowd was outstanding and it’s probably one of the best atmospheres I’ve ever played in front of,” said Scott-Morriss.
“From minute one it was bouncing.
“Credit to the Charlton fans because they made the atmosphere even better as well but the Southend fans are outstanding week in, week out.
“ I’m just glad we gave them a good day to enjoy themselves.”
The crowd of 8, 875 saw the Shrimpers beaten in the dying seconds of extra-time.
And Scott-Morriss was hurt by how the game ended.
“We’re very disappointed because I thought we were very good today,” said the right wing-back “We showed a lot of courage and fight to come back in to it because we let ourselves down in moments of the first half.
“We showed what we’re about and just really gutted we didn’t have the chance with penalties to get ourselves through.
“But I’m so proud of the lads in there, we kept coming back even when people probably thought we were down and out.”
