IN-FORM Great Wakering Rovers face another important week in their season.
Rovers will move second in the Essex Senior League standings with a win at home to Sawbridgeworth Town tonight before turning their attentions towards Saturday’s FA Vase clash against Great Yarmouth Town.
But Wakering midfielder Bradleigh Rowland will not be looking too far ahead.
“I believe if we just take the every game as it comes, and on the day do the job of getting the three points or going through to the next round of a cup we will do well,” said Rowland.
We have some great individuals but also have that team togetherness that is key.
“Sawbridgeworth will be a tough game though because every game in this league is.”
Wakering will be strong favourites to beat their second from bottom opponents tonight.
And they will also head into the contest in good spirits having triumphed 1-0 at Romford on Saturday in a repeat of last season’s FA Vase final.
“Romford were a very good side I thought,” said Rowland.
“They had good individuals and made it hard for us in certain areas.
“They’ll be up there for sure and the result was very pleasing.
“Being honest, I felt we weren’t at our best at times but to dig in and get the win is all that mattered.”
Wakering are now fourth in the standings with games in hand on all three sides above them in the table.
And Rowland - who has previously played for Buckhurst Hill, Basildon Town and Barking - has relished his role with Rovers.
“I’ve come into Wakering and so far loved every minute,” said Rowland.
“Marcus, Bun, Keysy and Aron have been top drawer and all the lads have been too so it’s been really enjoyable.
“The games have been good and challenging too.
“Every game has been treated like a big game so I believe we’ve prepped well against every team we’ve faced.
“Some results haven’t gone our way and we’ve lost some, but that’s football.
“All that matters is how we carry on for the rest of the season.”
But, whatever unfolds, Rowland will be able to call upon the expertise of his father Keith who made 93 appearances for West Ham United during his own career.
“It helps massively as I can always chat to him openly and rely on him for good advice,” said Rowland.
“Being brought up in and around football with him has taught me a lot for sure.”
