NATHAN Wilson wants his and White Ensign’s fine form to be a sign of things to come.

The Ensign skipper has been voted the Echo’s non league player of the month after producing a number of impressive performances for Aaron Bloxham’s side.

But Wilson is keen to ensure the good run of results remain in place for the rest of the season.

“We’re doing well at the moment but we want that to continue,” said the Southend based 19-year-old.

“We want to push on and make the play-offs and carry on our run in the FA Vase for as long as we can as well.

“Maybe we can reach a final in one of the cups too so there’s plenty for us to aim for.”

Ensign, who have now triumphed in their last five games in all competitions, are currently 11th in the Essex Senior League standings.

And Wilson is happy with how the season is starting to shape up.

“We started well but then got hit by a few holidays and long term injuries so it threw us off a little bit but now we’re doing really well with the squad we have at the moment,” said Wilson.

“We have a real team spirit and belief that we can do big things this year.”

Ensign’s fine run of form has seen them secure four clean sheets in succession.

And Wilson is pleased his part in that has seen him pick up the player of the month prize.

“It’s always nice to be recognised for your performances,” said Wilson.

“I’m happy the work I’m putting in is being recognised and it’s even better when it’s contributing to team performances like it is at the moment.”

Wilson saw off competition from Billericay Town’s Tom Bender, Canvey Island’s Jaxon Brown and Bowers & Pitsea’s Rohdell Gordon to win the player of the month award as he picked up 29 per cent of the nearly 500 votes cast.

But Wilson will not be resting on his laurels and is already turning his focus towards Saturday’s clash with fifth placed Romford.

“It’s a tough test,” said Wilson.

“They’re a good side that have changed a fair bit from last year but they have some good players and management staff so it’ll be a good challenge that we will have to step up for.

“But we’re in good form and we’re looking forward to the game.”

Wilson will again lead the team into action and continues to impress boss Bloxham.

“I’m really proud of Nathan,” said Bloxham.

“He is fantastic to work with and is always wanting to learn.

“The team love him and he loves the team.

“He will do anything for anyone in and out of football.

“You will not meet a nicer person.”
