ALTRINCHAM boss Phil Parkinson felt his side should have made more of their first half dominance against Southend United.

The Robins saw off the Shrimpers 2-0 at Moss Lane.

But Parkinson was slightly frustrated not to have scored more.

"I'm delighted with the performance and in the first half I thought we should have been well out of sight," Parkinson told the club's YouTube channel.

"We should really have finished them off in the opening 20 minutes.

"We should have been at least three to the good if not four.

"There were two other good chances on top of that too and we should have punished them more."

However, Altrincham still did enough to secure victory.

And Parkinson was pleased to start strongly.

"We knew Southend start fast," said Parkinson.

"They score 65 per cent of their goals in the first half so we knew we had to be at it but we knew they concede late on in games too.

"We started equally as fast and got the rewards for that."

And Parkinson was keen to praise his team for seeing off Southend.

"To get two goals against Southend is no mean feat,” said Parkinson.

“We've had many, many encounters with them and Kev's teams are really difficult to beat.

“They're a top team, his management team are really experienced and they know how to set teams up.

“They've had a purple patch too so we knew this would be difficult but our first half performance alone warranted the win.”
