BOBBY Mason believes Canvey Island can push for the Isthmian Premier Division play-offs this season.
Canvey head to Hashtag United tonight sitting 10th in the league table.
But the Gulls shot-stopper is confident Brad Wellmen’s side have what to takes to kick on.
“If we can just put a of run of games together and everyone can stay fit I honestly think we can reach the play-offs,” said Mason.
“If we can do that then you never know what can happen from there because the play-offs are a lottery.
“If we can go three or four games unbeaten it would put us in a good position going into Christmas where teams sometimes can’t handle the two and three games in quick succession.
“That’s where I think we might be able to capitalise but anything can happen really.”
Canvey have taken 19 points from their opening 15 games of the campaign.
And Mason is enjoying being back at the club after spending last season with Sittingbourne.
“It’s not been the dream start we wanted but it’s nice to be back and the fans have welcomed me with open arms,” said Mason.
“It’s been good to be back, I’m enjoying my football again and it’s good not having to travel so far again.
“Going to Sittingbourne was a lot of travelling so it’s nice being back here.
“A few of the boys are still here and others are coming back again now so we’ve almost got the band back together!”
Canvey had triumphed in three of their last four games prior to Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at Dover Athletic.
But Mason took heart from how well Gulls battled against the league leaders.
We turned up and I just had a funny feeling we were going to get a result,” said the shot-stopper.
“We went 1-0 up and were playing well.
“We could easily have had a penalty but the ref didn’t give it and then lack of concentration saw them get in before the half-time whistle.
“Second half we got another goal but they got two chances on the edge of the box and scored them.
“One is postage stamp and the other one hits the crossbar and goes in but we were playing the top of the league team and we left feeling hard done by.
“We feel like we should’ve got something from the game, 100 per cent but the lads are still upbeat which is good.”
And Canvey are therefore in good spirits heading into this evening’s encounter with Hashtag.
“It’s away from home but if anything our form has been better away from home,” said Mason.
“It’s a funny old league though because everyone beats everyone.”
