BILLERICAY Town boss Gary McCann praised the response of his players following their 2-1 win against Bowers & Pitsea.

Billericay had gone three games without a win prior to Saturday’s success.

And McCann was delighted Town found a way to see off Bowers.

“Credit goes to the opposition for how they made it difficult,” McCann told the club's YouTube channel.

“They left everything out on the pitch but that bit of magic we had at our disposal from the bench was always going to continue to ask questions and we got there in the end.”

A penalty from Moses Emmanuel was soon followed by another effort from Ashley Nzala. And, despite Bowers’ midfielder Jacob Bland scoring late on, the double-strike was enough to see Billericay get back on track.

“It was a tough game but you could effectively say it was three games without a win so it was the response that was important,” said McCann.

“It was about making sure we got back to winning ways, no matter how that played out. We needed the three points and we got them.”

The victory moved Billericay fourth in the Isthmian Premier Division standings.

And McCann was keen to praise the part Charlie Panton played in the win.

“He deserves a big mention,” said McCann.

“He’s applied himself brilliantly and he’s a great lad. He’s s humble lad who works extremely hard at his game.

“He’s a product of our youth system and that’s something I want to try and implement as much as I possibly can. He was outstanding.”

Billericay head to 14th placed Chichester City this weekend while Bowers, who are 20th, head to table-topping Dover Athletic.
