RUGBY: Westcliff head coach Jimmy Rea was left with mixed emotions following his side’s 34-34 draw at title rivals Eton Manor.

The result kept Westcliff three points clear at the top of the Regional Two Anglia table.

But Rea was slightly frustrated not to have beaten their hosts who started the game in second place.

“I’ve got conflicting views of disappointment and pride,” said Rea.

“I’m disappointed to draw when we were 34-22 up and defensively we were poor at the line-out, only winning 50 per cent of our own.”

However, there were aspects that pleased Rea.

“I’m proud that our defence stood up to the resilient attack from Eton Manor,” said Rea.

“In the second half we spent a lot of time in our own half.

“We would turn the ball over and immediately give it back.

“That can’t happen and when we make back to back errors, that’s the difference between winning and drawing.”

Elsewhere, ninth placed Rochford Hundred lost 47-5 at Wanstead.

In Regional One South East, Southend Saxons lost 30-13 at home to Shelford and are ninth in the table.
