FITZWIMARC School, Rayleigh, students James Horne (right) and Luke King were hoping to complete an Italian Job when they flew out to Venice today to compete in this weekend’s Funakoshi world championship karate competition.

The duo both live in Rayleigh and, aged 13, are year nine pupils.

They are both members of Seishan Karate Club. Horne is a 1st Kyu belt and has been training four times a week for around three-and-a-half-years, while King is a 1st Dan black belt who trains six times a week and has been involved for four-and-a-half years.

Said King: “I first gave karate a try at junior school and really liked it. My ambition is to one day fight for England.”
