ALEX Revell is still struggling to believe he did not score for the Shrimpers in last night’s FA Cup clash with Chelsea.

With his side 1-0 up at a packed Roots Hall the striker saw a close range header superbly saved by Petr Cech.

And Revell believes he was denied because he made good contact with the ball.

“I couldn’t have got any more on the ball but in the end I think that’s what counted against me,” said the 25-year-old.

“When the cross was coming in I was thinking I’m going to score here and I thought I had done.

“But in the end I think I got too much on it. If it had just glanced off my head then it would probably have gone in.

“It wasn’t to be though and it was a great save to be fair. “I guess that’s why they pay him so much money.”

After Cech’s save Chelsea fought back to win 4-1 but Revell stressed his side must immediately regain focus for Saturday’s trip to Stockport County.

“It’s a big game and I don’t think anybody is going to be struggling with motivation for it,” he said.

“We can all be proud of what we’ve done against Chelsea but now we need to show that in the league and start getting up the table.”

Southend are currently 14th in the League One standings and have triumphed in just one of their last eight league games
