DAMIAN Scannell will today discover the seriousness of his latest injury setback.

The Southend United winger limped off with another ankle problem during the reserve team’s 1-1 draw against Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday afternoon.

And the 24-year-old is now being sent for a scan to determine how long he will be out of action.

“I’m going in for the scan today and, after that, we will know more about how bad it is and how long I will be out of action for,” said Scannell.

“At the moment it certainly doesn’t look very good for the game at the weekend at Carlisle.

“But we will have to wait and see what the scan shows before we know for certain.”

Scannell lasted just 20 minutes against the Chairboys at Roots Hall but admitted to having felt some discomfort right from the start of the game.

“To be honest I was feeling my ankle from the start and it was really niggling,” said Scannell.

“Then when I tried to open up and sprint it just went again and that’s why I had to come off.

“It’s a secondary injury because it’s on the same ankle again and I think I might have some form of tendinitis.”

Scannell has already endured time on the treatment table with a knee injury this season and was also hit by swine flu.

He recently undertook his own training schedule to regain full sharp sharpness and is gutted to again be out of action.

“I worked really hard during that to get much fitter and you just have no idea how frustrating it is to be out injured,” said Scannell.

“It’s a real blow and I just hope it’s not too long before I’m back.”

Scannell joins defenders Osei Sankofa (knee) and Jean Yves M’Voto (hip) on the sidelines, meaning manager Steve Tilson currently has just 15 fit players in his squad.
