THE Southend-on-Sea Club hosted their annual Easter gala at Warrior Swim Centre on Good Friday for the very last time.

The seaside club, which is more than 100 years old, will be moving to the new state of the art 25-metre, eight- lane competition pool at Garon Park, Eastern Avenue, Southend, in the autumn.

Local clubs from Canvey, Runnymede, Rochford, and Borough of Southend joined Southend, along with other clubs from Essex for the fun annual event.

Several records were broken over the day’s competition with Easter eggs presented to the winners.

Charlie Pond Thompson won every event in the 15/16 years age group with event best times in the 100 fly and free.

Amelia Knowles, having just returned from the British Championships and Commonwealth trials, broke her own record in the 100 butterfly in the 13/14 years age group, as well as winning the 100 backstroke and freestyle.

Zoe Bradley set a new event best time in the 10 and under 100 breaststroke, adding wins in the 100 backstroke, butterfly and finishing second in the 100 free.

Charley Gallagher collected first place in the 17 and over 100 fly, freestyle and breaststroke, with Jessica Clarke collecting the top spot in the backstroke. Georgia Knowles was third in the 100 fly and breaststroke in the 17 and over age group.

Liberty Good, swimming in the 11/12 years age group, was second in the 100 breaststroke, plus sixth in the fly and freestyle.

Katie Willis collected third in the 13/14 years 100 fly and breaststroke. Sophie Waymont was fourth in the 13/14 years 100 freestyle and Morgan Lupton fifth in the 100 breaststroke and sixth in the fly.

Jessica Smoothy was third in the 100 breaststroke for the 11/12 yrs age group. Winning performances from the Southend boys came from Jack Carter (13/14 years 100 breaststroke and freestyle) and Christian Parker (17 and over 100 breaststroke).

Kieran Wilkinson finished second in the 11/12 years 100 fly, while Reece Parker collected medals in the 15/16 years 100 free (3rd) and 100 breaststroke (6th). Lewis Bayley was fifth in the 10 and under 100 backstroke, while Haydn Good was third in the 100 backstroke, fourth in the breaststroke and fifth in the free George Overell was fourth in the 100 backstroke, fifth in the breaststroke and sixth in the fly.

Billy Maynard was second in the breaststroke, fly and back in the 11/12 age group. Tim Evans and Peter Lawton collected medals in the 17 and over age group.
