SOUTHEND skipper Chris Green has been ruled out for six weeks with a broken arm.

The captain picked up the injury during last weekend’s defeat at Dings Crusaders.

And he will not figure against Westcombe Park at Warners Bridge tomorrow.

“It’s a blow,”said the Seasiders head coach Andy Holloway.

“Chris is a real leader and he had been playing well.”

“But at the same time we are well blessed in that area and he will be replaced by Jake Fisk who is a strong ball carrier and I’m sure he will do well.”

With Green in plaster, winger Mark Billings will skipper the side and Holloway has opted to make two other alterations to his starting line-up.

One of those will come in the front row where Luke Irvine replaces Mike Guess while Perry Sansom has been preferred to Simon Hoult.

Sansom will figure on the wing with Andrew Frost reverting to full-back.

And Holloway is demanding an improved performance after two successive defeats.

“I’ve made three changes but the players missing out are unlucky because it could have been anyone dropping out to be honest,” said Holloway.

“The last couple of matches have been disappointing so we need to make changes.

“But I haven’t made too many because that would cause too much disruption.

“We had also been playing well before the two defeats and we need to get back to that.

“I would also love the players I’ve left out to bounce back and prove me wrong when they next get an opportunity.”

Southend also have fit again winger Danny Cleare back on the bench.

But Holloway is expecting a tight tussle against a Westcombe Park side who have enjoyed a real rivalry with the Seasiders in recent seasons.

“We’ve been up and down the divisions together.

“And it’s a local derby which both sides look forward to playing in,” said Holloway.

“The matches are always very close and I expect it will be again tomorrow.”
