BLUES boss Paul Sturrock felt his side's poor shape was to blame for them failing to beat Accrington Stanley on Saturday.
Southend were forced to settle for a share of the spoils after Bilel Mohnsi cancelled out a free-kick from Jimmy Ryan.
But Sturrock believes Blues could have taken all three points if they had kept their discipline.
“There were players out there not thinking about the game or their positions,” said the former Plymouth Argyle chief.
“We lost a goal and because of that everyone suddenly thinks they have to do more. If they had just stuck to their jobs as a unit of 11 then it makes us very difficult to play against and that's what we're trying to get through to them.
“I'm disappointed because we really did have an awful lot of the ball and could have got more out of the game.”
