Thurrock have been reinstated in the Blue Square Bet South after Rushden & Diamonds were expelled from the Blue Square Bet Premier due to financial problems.
Fleet were preparing for life in the Ryman Premier following last season’s relegation, but were handed a reprieve on Saturday when it was announced at the Conference’s AGM that Rushden were being removed from the non-league’s top division.
It means that relegated Southport will now stay in the Blue Square Bet Premier, Thurrock will remain in the Blue Square Bet South, while Bishop’s Stortford will move to Blue Square Bet North.
Thurrock manager Robbie Garvey said: “I am delighted with the news.
“I feel sorry for Rushden, but my job is to get Thurrock established in the Blue Square Bet South. And even though we are there by default, I will use this opportunity to take the club forward.”
