NEIL Harris is certain he will be able to handle the pressure at Southend United next season.

The 33-year-old knows he will be expected to hit the back of the net for Blues on a regular basis. But he is adamant he can handle that responsibility in front of goal.

“I think I play my best football when I’m under pressure,” said Harris.

“I know that I have to do well, especially as I live locally myself.

“If I go out it’s in Leigh or Rayleigh and people there are Southend fans, so are my son’s friends and my friends too, so I know people will expect a lot from me but I’m experienced enough to deal with that.”

Harris has played more than 500 games during a professional career which stretches 13 years. But he is still determined to add to that tally and play regularly for Blues.

“My target is to be in the team when the season starts in August and then stay in it,” said Harris.

“Touch wood, I haven’t had any serious injuries during my career so I’m in good condition and I am able to play every week. That’s what I’ve come here to do.”
