CHADWELL elite class female boxer Nina Smith showed why she’s one of the shortlisted of female fighters vying for a place at next year’s Olympics.
The 27-year-old 51kg class fighter from Grays smashed her way through all four rounds of the Class A ABAE National Female boxing Champion-ship finals in Nottinghamshire on Sunday to earn her national title.
Her opponent, Talia Anthony from Chadd ABC in Derbyshire, was no match for the talented Chadwell ABC fighter. The bout was at the Mansfield Civic Centre and was extremely fast-paced and tested both of the women’s fitness.
Anthony gave it her all and did not stop coming forward. But Smith was able to pick her off with very strong combinations and the experience of the Chadwell boxer was evident in every round.
The computer-scored rounds went 6-2, 14-4, 19-5 and 27-9 in Smith’s favour.
Smith’s coaches Chris Okoh and Scot Johnston were delighted with her performance, with Okoh saying Smith had proved she was worthy of her spot on the GB Olympic squad.
Smith she will be boxing again in the Haringey Box Cup tournament to be held at The Great Hall in Alexandra Palace this week. Other Chadwell St Mary boxers boxing in the event are Ben Davey,17, (54kg), Shadreck Nyamunokora (81kg), Karlton Bryant (81kg), Valerian Spicer (57kg) and Hollie Martin-Wood (54kg).
