CHRIS Barker has been named as Southend United's new captain.
The 31-year-old replaces Craig Easton who now looks certain to leave the club.
And manager Paul Sturrock is certain the defender will do a good job.
“Chris is hugely experienced and will do a good job leading the players both and off the pitch,” said Sturrock.
The Scotsman has announced striker Neil Harris as the club's vice captain and will also continue to work with his son Blair.
For the striker has now agreed a short team deal, which is believed to be a month long, to stay at Roots Hall.
