SOUTHEND United’s chief executive Tara Brady was pleased as punch after maintaining his unbeaten record in the boxing ring.

Brady beat Rayleigh-based Jamie Westlake of Chelmsford’s Fighting Fit Boxing Club on a unanimous points decision at the Southend Tennis and Leisure Centre on Saturday night.

And he was thrilled to come out on top in the bout, which was part of Ultimate Warrior Challenge 16.

“I’m really pleased to have won and to have taken part in such a great night,” said Brady, who has now not lost in six bouts.

“I don’t actually think I fought as well as I could’ve done but I managed to land a few punches and thankfully that saw the decision go my way.”

Brady was roared on by a close to capacity crowd, which included Blues chairman Ron Martin and several of the club’s first team players.

They were also pleased to see Brady win, especially as he was fighting to raise funds for the SCAT charity, which is now very close to his heart.

“My nine year-old daughter Addie has been diagnosed with primary bone cancer of the tibia and ankle and there is the potential risk of amputation if she doesn’t respond that well to treatment,” said Brady.

“SCAT is the charity which deals with her case so all of the proceeds from the bout are going to the charity.

“Jamie also gave his proceeds to the charity which I applaud and hopefully we’ve raised plenty of money.”

Brady fought with the Southend United club crest printed on his shorts, along with the words Shrimper and 657, to also show his links to Portsmouth — the team he supports.
