CONCORD were once again rueing costly mistakes as two goals in the final 10 minutes saw AFC Hornchurch come from behind to win.

Tony Stokes gave the Beachboys the lead from the penalty spot five minutes before the interval after Joe Wooley had been felled.

The hosts looked to be in control and Stokes had another goal ruled out for offside before Ryan Ware fired a gilt-edged chance over from close range.

This miss proved decisive as, at the other end, a defensive mix-up saw Frankie Curley score for the visitors before, barely two minutes later, Lewis Smith hit the winner for the Urchins.

Joint Concord boss Danny Scopes said: “For 70 minutes we were excellent, then a couple of lapses of concentration and we have lost the game. We missed a great chance to go 2-0 up just before they equalised and then make a mistake at the back. This league is very unforgiving. You need to take your chances when they come along and can’t make mistakes at the other end.”

Concord gave a debut to former Arsenal trainee Craig Holloway in goal as Scopes and co-manager Danny Cowley look to strenghthen their backline.

“We are letting in too many goals and we need to look at that. We brought in Craig, and he did well. He didn’t stand a chance with the goals and hopefully he can help us.”
