GREAT Wakering Rovers boss Danny Greaves sprung a surprise ahead of his side’s short trip to Heybridge Swifts by releasing long-standing goalkeeper Louis Godwin-Green.
Lewis Batchford played in goal for Wakering as they let slip a one-goal lead at Swifts, eventually going down to a 3-1 defeat at Scraley Road.
Godwin-Green had long been a Wakering stalwart and stood on the brink of 200 appearances for the club.
Swifts’ striker Tom Broadhurst was proved the real difference between the two sides.
Trailing 1-0 at the interval to Liam Hopkins well-taken free-kick, Swifts brought on Broadhurst for the start of the second half.
He didn’t waste any time introducing himself to the Wakering backline who never got to grips with his pace.
He won his side two penalties that were both converted by Jack West.
Stuart Fergus added gloss to the scoreline by curling in a free kick in the dying embers of the game.
