REECE Gunn has been shooting his way to success on the basketball court.
The 13-year-old Eastwood School pupil was called up for the East of England squad in the National Regional Development Tournament.
And he played more minutes than any other player in the team.
“Reece is fantastic ambassador for us,” said Eastwood’s head of PE Scott Maclean. “He can be seen on the basketball court every day of the week.
“He is in at 7.30am for his school practice and still there at 10pm when he finishes with the Southend Swifts.
“His dedication has now been rewarded with this selection.”
Gunn helped the East of England team finish sixth out of the 12 teams taking part.
And that was despite him having to play in an unfamiliar role.
“Throughout the tournament he was asked to play out of position but – typical of Reece – he got on court and just got on with the job,” said Maclean.
“He finished the tournament with more court time than any other player.
“He is also a great example of the excellent work that the Southend Swifts do with players of all ages.
“They are relentless in their consistent high standards of practice and performance.
“We are very fortunate at Eastwood to have them use our wonderful facilities and Reece is one of many shining lights to come out of that club.”
