Basildon AC’s teenage duo Jack Fitsall and Andy Law both ran personal bests in the Chelmsford 10km – just a day after competing in the Essex Cross-Country League in Hadleigh.
Fitsall, 17, was sixth overall and the first under-20 athlete home in 32m 40s, while Law, also 17, was tenth in 33m 22s and second in the under-20 standings.
The race was won by Jermaine Mays, from Kent AC, in 31m 21.
The first south Essex athlete to finish was Billericay Stiders’ Crispian Bloomfield who came fifth in a time of 32m 40s.
Sandwiching the two Basildon AC teenagers was the first Southend AC athlete home, David Gibbon, who also collected a personal best of 33m 16s.
One place outside the top ten was the Seasiders’ Roy Scott who also recorded a PB (33m 30s). A further PB was earned by third Southend AC man Lee Taylor (60th, 40m 15s) while Glen Taylor completed the line-up in 47m 54s.
Benfleet Running Club were led home by Alan Clark (37m 36), followed not far behind by Craig Sterling (39m 19s).
Andrew Doig was the first Pitsea man to finish (40m 22s PB).
The women’s race was won by Colchester Harriers’ Sarah Stradling in 36m 9s.
