NICK Grier wants to help Southend Rugby Club make history when they head to Redruth this weekend.
Never before have the Seasiders triumphed away at the Cornwall club.
And the 25-year-old hooker is determined to put that right.
“The club have not beaten Redruth away before so it would be nice to change that and be involved in a historic win tomorrow,” said Grier, who is from Basildon.
“We know it will be a hard game and that we will have to play well for the whole 80 minutes.
“But we were all pleased with how we played against Lydney last weekend so hopefully we can repeat that performance and get another win.”
Southend stuffed Lydney 62-29 at Warners Bridge, with Grier bagging his first try of the season.
The hooker was delighted to open his account and insists confidence is high in the team after such an emphatic victory.
“We lost at the Clifton the week before so we wanted to prove a point and we definitely did that,” said Grier.
“I was pleased to get a touch down and we passed the ball wide to score a lot of tries.
“That made sure we got what was a really good win as Lydney were above us in the table before we played them.”
Redruth are now just one place above Southend, who are seventh, having won eight of their 13 outings this term.
They beat Clifton 42-36 last Saturday and have triumphed in six of their seven home games so far.
Only third placed Henley have beaten them on their own pitch this season and Southend will again be missing scrum half Sam Arnott tomorrow.
The scrum half will be suspended for another fortnight after his red card against Clifton and 18-year-old Harry Branch is expected to continue in his place after making an encouraging debut last Saturday.
However, the Seasiders have also been hit hard by an injury to in-form winger Danny Cleare who is expected to be out until after Christmas with a knee problem.
Cleare had been playing both on the wing and at full-back for Southend and has scored five tries in his last six games.
