BLUES’ reserve team boss Graham Couglan was a frustrated figure after seeing his side crash out of the Essex Senior Cup against Grays Athletic.
Blues were beaten 4-1 on penalties by the Ryman One North visitors after Tuesday night’s third round tie at Roots Hall had ended 0-0.
And Coughlan was incredibly annoyed by the defeat which leaves Southend’s second string with just a few more matches to play all season.
“I’m still very disappointed with the game, how it panned out and the final result,” said Coughlan.
“It was a great window of opportunity for the players to impress the Southend manager and any others who may have been watching.
“The defeat also means these players will have just three games left to play this season and that may be the only opportunities they have to try and extend their stay at the football club.”
