KANE Ferdinand wants to fire Southend United to within one round of Wembley with victory over Swindon Town tonight.
Blues face the Robins at Roots Hall in the southern area semi-final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
And Ferdinand is desperate to come out on top.
“Everyone dreams of playing at Wembley and this might be the best chance we have of getting there so we want to make the most of it,” said Ferdinand, 19.
“If we win against Swindon then we’re only one round away from getting there.
“I’ve been to the new Wembley to watch a game but to actually play in one would be something else.”
Victory tonight would also secure a place in the club’s record books for this current Southend side.
Never before have Blues gone 18 games without defeat but their last reverse actually came against Swindon in League Two in September.
And Ferdinand is keen to get revenge on the Robins for that 2-0 defeat at the County Ground.
“I don’t think any of us did ourselves any favours that day and it was probably our worst performance of the season in truth,” said the midfielder.
“That does make you a bit more fired up to do well and we want to show them how we’ve improved.
“But we’re fully aware it will be another difficult game because Swindon have also been doing well.”
