THE colder weather may not be to everyone’s liking, but it will bring the codling up the water which is good news for anglers.
* Thamesmead & Erith: Still large whiting being taken plus flounders and smelt.
*Stanford: Still only flounders.
* Gravesend: Big bags of whiting. Still codling to 4lb and a fair number of smelt.
* Dagenham: The odd flounder which spot well on sweaty lug.
* Southend Pier: Whiting and a few doggies.
* Southend Beaches – West Beach: A few whiting and the odd flounder. No codling over the weekend because of the small tides.
* Southend Beaches – Barge Pier: Chance of a whiting or a bass.
* River Crouch: Still whiting to be taken and better quality than last weekend.
* River Roach: Mostly flounders, plus the odd eel and whiting.
* Walton Pier: Stacks of whiting. There are so many, you could catch one on a bare hook. Last Thursday, Laurence Chisnall had 41 whiting and two cod.
* Frinton Town beach: Pole Barn Lane. Though it’s a tough road there are lots of codling between 2lb and 3lb on block lug and squid – or a cocktail of both.

* Charter boats: Misty Lady, out of Walton, reports codling to 6.5lb (average of 3lb), plus lots of skate.
